Exedy Number EFK173HP1 1987-Up 700R4 / 4L60E Stage-1 High Performance / Heavy Duty Clutch Module. Six 3-4 .080 of an Inch thick Waved Clutches. Rated at 500 rear wheel horsepower. Exedy has improved their already durable clutch with 3-4 friction plates for the 700R4/4L60E family by incorporating micro-waves in the design. This design has undergone 22 months of extensive durability testing and is now available from PATC. Micro-wave technology is used in current vehicles to help fuel mileage by considerably reducing parasitic drag in unapplied clutch packs. Using this methodology, micro-waves applied to the 3-4 clutch dramatically reducing heat generated in 1st and 2nd gear by keeping the plates cooled and separated prior to applying.

The 700R4 / 4L60E family has long been haunted by premature 3-4 clutch burn-up; a decades-long problem where builders are seeking longevity. Over the years there have been various attempts to address this: from the changing the friction material and steel plate thicknesses, to the aftermarket trying extra thinner plates and single-sided plates but none of these addressed the root cause until now.

Raybestos Powertrain Kolene steel clutch plates are high quality engineered high performance products. Kolene is a salt bath nitriding process. In generic terms, it is a thermochemical diffusion process, whereby ferrous parts are processed in molten salt with a specific nitrogen potential. TH350 700R4 4L60 Heavy Duty Center Support and Case Saver A74761DAC

Intended for use as a case-saver, our A74761DAC is a new twist on a resurrected idea.

TH350 cases are no longer plentiful nor as cheap as they once were. 4L60E cases have many variations throughout the years. Either application requires replacement when the case lugs are worn. You can now save your case and improve on the original design!

A74761DAC fits like OE. After installing your 87-UP 4L60 roller clutch and inner race, align outer lugs and set into place. Install the case snap ring. Next, align outer lugs and set the retainer plate in. Install and tighten six allen-head screws to 100-110 inch-pounds.

Our A74761DAC utilizes the wide 87-up roller clutch assembly providing more holding power than the early narrow TH350.

Used as a case saver or an upgrade, you’ve been introduced to the strongest-known center support ever available for these applications!


A74761DAC includes (1) modified OEM center support, (6) allen-head cap screws and (1) outer support plate that fits into previously unused case lugs.

While performing this installation, please remember a few simple rules.

1. Install all bolts before tightening in a particular sequence.
2. Use Loctite and torque bolts where applicable. Never force anything.
3. Lubricate both threads.
4. Trial fit everything to make sure it will fit. See rule #2.


Installation Instructions

1. With your transmission removed, clean the back of the block where the adapter will contact it.
Make sure both alignment dowels are in place.

If you have three alignment dowels remove the one on top.

Bolt the adapter plate to the block with the 5 flathead screws.

Due to the differences in engines over the years, it may be necessary to fit the plate to the block.

They weren’t all made exactly the same.

You may need to grind the block slightly where the weld on the starter bracket contacts the block.

Also check where the starter bracket touches the oil pan.
Some pans hit the bracket. However, if this is the case, grind either the bracket or the pan rail. This will be a
tight fit. As a result, that will ensure a solid starter mount.

Now install the provided flywheel using the 6 flywheel bolts provided. It only goes on one way and is a tight fit. This flywheel has an O degree mark on it for timing.

You should now be able to bolt any Chevy automatic transmission to the back of this motor.

This kit is for use on motors with a 6-bolt crank only.
GMC takes a different kit. This kit is designed to use a stagger bolt Chevy starter from most V8s from the late 60s to the early 80s.

Just as long as it is for a 168 tooth flywheel. Chevy only had 2 different flywheel patterns for many years. A 153 and a 168.

2. Important!
Check to make sure that the pilot on the torque converter you plan to use will fit into the crankshaft. Some of the early 216/235/261 engines had an inside crankshaft diameter of 1.686. The standard torque converter pilot on a GM converter is 1.702. You will have to remove some material on the converter pilot to get it to fit if this is the case.

3. We will not warranty flexplates that are bent due to installer error! Make sure the converter is trial
fitted before bolting trans to adapter!
