The 3-5-R waved plate in Gen. 1 and 2 6T40, 6T45, 6T50 units commonly fails and breaks into pieces, resulting in code P0776, harsh and flare shifts or complete loss of 3-5-R. Additionally, the broken pieces damage the housing splines, requiring a new housing. Even though the OEM attempted to prevent this issue with an updated waved plate, there are still units with the updated plates failing in the field. Sonnax 3-5-R drum saver kit 144555K is specially designed to allow salvage of the damaged housing by preventing the damaged spline portion from interfering with proper clutch pack travel.
