This coating reduces pump wear from the pump gears by decreasing surface friction and increasing lubrication during dry startups. Some builders have also tried to increase clutch count by running clutches upside down. This practice causes the first clutch to only get partial apply and leads to premature failures as well as cooling issues due to the change in oil dispersion. Furthermore, in order to run 16 clutches upside down, the UD\/OD pressure plate must be machined down. This plate is already thinner out of the box when compared to the factory plate. Machining it even more leads to warping and a non-flat apply surface. Lastly, the off-the-shelf kit requires a ring to be pressed on and staked in order to convert the factory inner drum to work with the billet outer drum. This area is prone to leakage and can be damaged during installation of the ring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe RevMax 700S inner drum assembly fixes all of these complaints and adds additional clutch capacity. Some of the biggest problems have been premature clutch failure and valve body wear. The premature clutch failure can be isolated to hydraulic cross leaks and warped valve bodies. Approximately 80-90% of those cross leaks have been found in the OE channel plate casting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you look closely at the stock casting with a straight edge, you will notice that there is some severe flexing and warping. Looking at how the valve body is fastened to the transmission and being that there are limited contact surfaces it’s no wonder we see so many problems. For example, fourth gear clutch failure, premature valve body bores worn, and defective valve lands.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe have noticed over the years that in many cases the same vehicle would require another new valve body after only 60-70,000 miles. So, we decided that the best way to fix this issue was to eliminate channel plate flexing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe developed a new plate made of billet aluminum that has shallow hydraulic circuits. It is made from a solid 1” piece of material. Machining away only what is necessary to ensure no warpage and a very solid foundation to bolt the valve body back to. Also, we have slightly moved some passages and eliminated those not necessary in hopes of stopping separator plate chafing and valve body breakage and cracking from high line pressure in performance applications.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWith our new billet channel plate, the end user is able to use the stock hardware. They can also choose whether they want to use a bonded separator plate or a good used stock one. The customer can also apply stock or performance tuning with higher line pressure with our plate. For an understanding of the durability we tested the strength of the plate. We put the stock plate on a press that has a pressure gauge. With the edges supported just like factory, we then put a 1.000-inch round bar in the center. At 300lbs of pressure the stock plate warped to .168 and then cracked. We then did the same to our plate. At 1 ton it did not move. We then went to 2 tons with barely any movement. Flex was .021.  Then we went to 5 tons and it was .047. So, we decided that we would give it 10 tons…. It flexed to .160 and out of fear we stopped. Customers have commented that they wanted a new design channel plate that incorporated all of the initial designs’ features yet allowed it to be used with a stock pan or with any aftermarket pan. After nearly 8 months and 6 revisions we now have the V2.0 available!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur V2.0 still is 1” thick but this new version has precision cutouts that allow the use of a stock filter and pan. Unlike other designs, we still have full depth worm tracks in crucial circuits. The other designs we have seen have only a .190” deep worm track in several critical circuits. One restricted circuit is the combined vent track. This track is responsible for all venting operations and in particular the problematic SSV valve. The next restricted circuit is the torque converter clutch signal circuit. Restrictions in this circuit create all kinds of torque converter related concerns including: dragging when coming to a stop, overheating, soft or harsh TCC apply or release, and back feed issues resulting in P1776 and P0871 trouble codes.
