The 5R110W Torqshift.  When used in 4-wheel drive applications it must make use of a large spanner nut that also serves as the inner surface for the output shaft seal.  This  nut must be removed for complete disassembly of the transmission.  The design of this nut requires a “spanner wrench” in the form of a large 1/2” drive socket.  Made of heavy duty steel, the pins are a great fit and should never need replacement! Prior to final assembly, T-44587AC is installed at the PTO mount, held in place by two bolts. T-44587AC is used to support the main shaft during assembly, providing preload.  Why?  Once the rear half is assembled and the extension housing is bolted in place, you must roll the trans back over, bellhousing flange “up”. During this procedure, if not preloaded, the main shaft is able to move.  Often, this causes the P3 sun gear thrust bearing to fall out of place.  At a minimum, this creates clearance issues costing the time spent disassembling. If gone unnoticed, the bearing gets pinched and self-destructs on the test run, taking out costly hard parts with it.

Also needed for servicing the 6L50E in the Cadillac CTS and the 6L90E in GM 2500 pickups. 

The 6L80E ushered in a new era as GM’s rear-wheel drive workhorse. A fascinating design that uses a Lepelletier-inspired gear train; it also uses a large aluminum center support which must be removed to gain access to the low/reverse clutch pack and the rear planet assembly.

The center support houses the 2-6 clutch pack on the front side and the low/reverse on the rear. The size of the support and the amount of stress of the two clutch packs it contains made necessary the use of a rather large, extremely stout snap-ring to hold it firmly in place.

Therefore, a rather large and stout pair of pliers is required! Until just recently none were available. To remove the snap ring many have found it necessary to cut into the case from the bottom to gain access with a screwdriver and hammer to "pop" it out of the groove.

Leverage is the name of the game when this much pressure is in play. The engineers burned the midnight oil working through many designs before arriving at what you see. The heavy-duty tips are replaceable, available through your regular tool truck. These are 26 1/2 inches long. This is a very hard job without this tool. Cost $141.00

#6. The continuous stroking of the 1-2 (Forward) and reverse servo boost valves wear away at the valve bore, creating excess clearance and reduced apply pressures. This can lead to 1-2 band slippage, delayed engagements, 1-2 shift flares, and decreased reverse pressure. An oversized valve has been developed that will restore the hydraulic integrity and more than doubles the valve-to-bore contact area to prevent leakage. The valve has been manufactured from anodized aluminum to prevent future bore wear. This valve will fit both the forward and reverse applications for the 4T60, 4T60-E and 4T65-E. 700R4 / 4L60E

A worn 3-4 relay / 4-3 sequence valve body bore can cause a no 4th gear situation in a 700R4 or 4L60E. Due to the constant valve oscillation, wear occurs at the 4th accumulator circuit. This can lower 4th gear pressure by as much as 20-25 psi, resulting in lower servo apply pressure or no 4th gear. Leakage also occurs at the end plug, due to valve hammering. This allows 4th signal oil loss which can result in a no 4th gear situation. Sonnax now offers two oversized 3-4 relay and 4-3 sequence valve kits for the 700R4 and 4L60E. Reamer required for these two valves.

 

  • Critical valve spools have been made larger to restore hydraulic integrity to the valve bore.

  • The last spool diameter on the 4-3 sequence valves has been extended to increase spring force against the oversized valves.

  • Each kit includes an o-ringed end plug to prevent 4th gear oil loss.

  • Valves for the 4L60 are made from hardened steel to duplicate the OEM material for use in the cast-iron valve body.

  • Valves for the 4L60-E are made from anodized aluminum to provide longer life, resist wear and maintain critical clearances in the aluminum valve body.

  • Sonnax reamers for the 700R4 and 4L60E allows you to re-establish the bore size for the oversized valve kits.
